A sprawling oceanfront home in Maine has sold for a record-breaking $12million in just 90 minutes.

The home in Kennebunkport spent a short time on the market before it was snatched for the highest price York County has ever seen.

The 5,000-square-foot property was described by the realtors as a ‘one-of-a-kind’ that ‘flawlessly combines classic coastal elegance with unparalleled luxury’.

‘It has a really punch-in-the-mouth view. It’s kind of a surprise, it’s a tease, it’s a sleeper. Because it looks like granny’s little Cape Cod, and then you walk in and – kaboom,’ Bill Gaynor of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty, who represented the sale, told the Portland Press Herald

With 275 feet of waterfront and breathtaking views, the property features walls of windows facing the ocean.

The interior, which was restored in 2016, follows a midcentury modern aesthetic with pops of bold colors contrasting the white walls.

The property boasts five bedrooms and four full baths, an all-white sleek kitchen, and a large sitting room with a built-in fireplace.

Each bedroom is fit with windows facing out on to the ocean for breathtaking views, and the bathrooms and bedrooms alike follow a sleek and minimalist design.

The buyer wasn't revealed, but according to broker Bill Gaynor it was purchased by a 'Chicago-based industrialist with significant ties to Maine.' Gaynor added that the buyer had signed the contract before even viewing the property and toured it two weeks after signing

Features of wood paneling on walls and ceilings appear across the house, with a lounge area tucked away into a cozier space fitted with warm-oak wood paneling on the walls and mantel above the fireplace.

On 1.1 acres the property sits 20 feet above the water and has more than 200 feet of coastline, Gaynor said.

The buyer wasn’t revealed, but according to Gaynor it was purchased by a ‘Chicago-based industrialist with significant ties to Maine’.

Gaynor added that the buyer had signed the contract before even viewing the property and toured it two weeks after signing.

‘This buyer knew that if he didn’t get it, someone else will,’ Gaynor said. ‘It has just a really terrific vibe to it.’
