What are the different types of tablets?
There’s a serious amount of choice out there. Apple alone has four different iPad ranges, all with different size and configuration options so even if you’ve decided it’s an iPad you want, finding the best iPad for you requires a degree of research to ensure you buy the right model. Samsung too has four ranges within its Galaxy Tab S portfolio, and Lenovo, Amazon and Microsoft aren’t one-man bands either in terms of their offerings.
How much money do you need to buy a good tablet?
The amount you will need to spend on a tablet will be dependent on what you are looking for from your tablet. If you’re only looking for a device to watch Netflix on, the definition of ‘good’ will be different to someone who is looking for a tablet to do video editing on the move.
Wood explains, “How much you want to spend really depends on how you want to use the tablet. If you want a small and affordable tablet for kids to use, a basic Android powered 8-inch tablet would be more than sufficient.
“If you want a tablet as a productivity device, similar to a laptop, you may want to spend a lot more, to ensure you get a larger, brighter display and more powerful device that can easily cope with the tasks you want to complete on the device,” he adds.
Which tablet brand is best?
The tablet brand that is best for you will come down to personal preference to some degree, as well as what other devices you already own. If you have an iPhone for example, an iPad is a natural choice, while a Samsung tablet will play nice with a Samsung phone and offer some extra features. It could also come down to what operating system you enjoy using and what you want to do.
That said, Wood says, “The Apple iPad is regarded as the benchmark brand for tablets. Apple was the market maker for the tablet despite the fact that the product category had been around for years with Windows-powered tablets.
He does however add, “For affordable tablets my go-to brand is typically Amazon, however other companies such as TCL offer very affordable products that are very functional and offer a good bang for your buck.”
Is Lenovo better than Samsung?
This very much depends on what you are looking for. Samsung has some of the most impressive displays in the market, but Lenovo offers great value tablet options that will be more than enough for many people and at a cheaper price point.
Wood says, “Samsung has built a good reputation for offering tablets that are well designed, extremely thin and feature stunning displays. They have also worked hard to create an ecosystem of products making it easy for owners with multiple Samsung devices to connect them and share content and connectivity.”
How many gigabytes (GB) should a tablet have?
Again, this isn’t a one-size fits all answer. As Wood explains, “This really depends on what you want to use the tablet for. If you are doing basic browsing and some simple gaming and streaming videos you only need a basic memory configuration.
“However, if you are planning to download lots of content, play more advanced games or use the device for productivity tasks similar to a laptop, investing in a high capacity memory configuration is well worthwhile.”
