Event to watch: Surfing – Day 1
Making its second appearance in the Olympics, surfers showcase their skills with maneuvers and tricks, evaluated by five judges for variety, type, difficulty, speed, power and flow.
The competitors use shortboards, which are known for their speed and maneuverability.
Team USA’s Carissa Moore, who became the first-ever Olympic gold medalist in women’s shortboard surfing, will shoot for her second gold.
Despite it being the Paris Games, the surfing competition will be held in Teahupo’o, a small village on the coast of Tahiti.
