Beyoncé wasn’t always Queen Bee, according to her mom, Tina Knowles.
“She was very shy, and she got bullied a bit,” the Knowles matriarch, 70, said in a video for Vogue, which she shared on Instagram. “But the day that she stood up for someone — she didn’t stand up for herself she stood up for them. I’m getting emotional talking about it. I was just, I couldn’t have been more proud of her.”
Tina also discussed her other daughter, Solange, 37, describing her as an “activist.”
She later praised Kelly Rowland, whom she has long considered a daughter. The Destiny’s Child alum moved in with the Knowles family as a tween.
“Kelly was always this kid that just tried to protect everybody,” Tina said. “I have a memory of her with her best friend Barbara and her being a mediator and just being this little peacemaker.”
The fashion designer then captioned the video by gushing about her three daughters.
“Each child is different! But all so special. I believe kids are born with their personalities,” she wrote. “My three girls All handled things very differently. Learn their personalities and respect the individuality.
“Never compare the negatives , always praise the positive differences and pay attention to the things that you can brag on about them. They love it and it encourages positive behavior.”
Knowles is fiercely loyal to her girls. Most recently, she came to the defense of Rowland, who made headlines for scolding a security guard at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
“And just like that, she @kellyrowland graces another carpet with her amazing glorious beauty, class and grace!!!! Sipping Champagne and living her best life❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Knowles captioned a video of the “Bootylicious” singer posing for photos ahead of the annual amfAR Gala Cannes.

Last year, Knowles clapped back at trolls who criticized Beyoncé’s platinum hair by labeling them “losers.”
Knowles shares Beyoncé and Solange with ex-husband Matthew Knowles. Tina and Matthew, 72, were married from 1980 to 2011.
