After nearly two years on the sidelines, the British boxing star will finally make his return to the ring, but his upcoming opponent has issued a chilling warning ahead of their clash
Tommy Fury‘s upcoming opponent has sent a stinging jab at the Fury name ahead of their boxing showdown next month.
‘TNT’ confirmed he he will return to the boxing ring in May and will be back in action in Budapest on the ninth of the month – nearly two years on from his last fight. The 25-year-old will take on Bosnian boxer Kenan Hanjalic – who holds a professional record of 4-1.
Fury’s brother Roman is also scheduled to feature on the undercard, taking on 7-5 boxer Josip Pehar. The former Love Island star’s last fight came back in October 2023 – when he defeated social media sensation KSI. The British boxer was due to fight ex-UFC title challenger Darren Till earlier this year, but pulled out of the contest after his rival threatened to kick him in the head.
After snapping all the ligaments in his right hand, Fury had reconstructive surgery in early 2024 – which ruled him out for the rest of the year. Now, the youngster is hoping to pick up from where he left off against Hanjalic. While many assume it’ll be an easy night at the office for the Brit, the Bosnian brawler himself has vowed to do whatever it takes to get his hand raised next month.

The Furys are one of the most iconic family names in modern day boxing. Tyson Fury is arguably the biggest name, having been a two-time world champion in his career. After defeating the likes of Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, Francis Ngannou and Derek Chisora, the ‘Gypsy King’ announced his retirement from the sport earlier this year. With his younger brother Tommy set to return to the ring, Hanjalic has sent a chilling warning to ‘TNT’ – insisting ‘names don’t win fights.’
«I come from Sarajevo and proudly represent Gladiator Club Sarajevo, with over 100 amateur fights behind me – each one shaping me into the fighter I am today. I’m stepping into the ring on May 9 in Budapest to face Tommy Fury with one mission – to win,» he told All Out Fighting.
«I respect every opponent, but names don’t win fights – hard work, discipline, and heart do. It’s my time to prove that I belong at the top. I’m not going there to be anyone’s test – I’m going there to cause an upset. Thank you to everyone in Sarajevo and around the world who believes in me. This is my moment.»
After his comeback was confirmed, Fury himself was quick to express his excitement. «Two years out. One surgery. The hardest battle I’ve faced has been the mental battle of being away from boxing,» he wrote on Instagram. after he confirmed the news «But I’m back stronger, sharper, and more HUNGARY than ever. May 9th, Budapest… It’s showtime. Let’s go!»
