Travis Kelce is adding more hardware to his already stacked collection.
The Chiefs tight end, 34, was named Athlete of the Year on Sunday during the 2024 People’s Choice Awards at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., one week after Kansas City topped the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.
Though Kelce wasn’t in attendance at Sunday’s show, the three-time Super Bowl champion offered an expletive-filled reaction to the People’s Choice nomination back in January.
“F–king nonsense,” Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with older brother and Eagles center Jason Kelce.
“What did I do to get Athlete of the Year? I did ‘SNL’ (Saturday Night Live).”
Kelce — who edged out NBA greats LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Steph Curry, U.S. Open champ Coco Gauff, soccer superstar Lionel Messi, two-time WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu and famed Olympic gymnast Simone Biles in the category — had been critical of his play throughout the 2023 NFL season.
He was just shy of eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards this year, something he had done every season since 2016.
Despite a challenging regular season, Kelce had a dominant playoff run, scoring three touchdowns across the Chiefs’ divisional and championship-round wins against the Bills and Ravens, respectively.
He had nine receptions for 93 yards in the Chiefs’ overtime Super Bowl win against the 49ers last Sunday in Las Vegas, earning his third championship title in five seasons.
Kelce celebrated on the field at Allegiant Stadium with girlfriend Taylor Swift, who also took home four People’s Choice Awards on Sunday for Female Artist, Pop Artist, Concert Tour and Social Celebrity.
The 14-time Grammy winner just wrapped three shows of her blockbuster Eras Tour in Melbourne, Australia.
Swift, 34, will next travel to Sydney before taking the Eras Tour to Singapore in early March.
It’s been speculated that Kelce — who has been dating Swift since the summer — will join her on the international leg of her tour, which will head to Europe beginning in May.
