Your support helps us to tell the story
My recent work focusing on Latino voters in Arizona has shown me how crucial independent journalism is in giving voice to underrepresented communities.
Your support is what allows us to tell these stories, bringing attention to the issues that are often overlooked. Without your contributions, these voices might not be heard.
Every dollar you give helps us continue to shine a light on these critical issues in the run up to the election and beyond

Donald Trump doubled down on his outlandish conspiracies about Tuesday’s presidential debate — that he won, that the polls are up, and that Kamala Harris was fed the questions and wore an earpiece — none of which are true.
Earlier, he also continued to peddle falsehoods about Haitian migrants in Ohio during a rambling, low-energy press conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California.
Trump falsely claimed during the debate on Tuesday that the Haitian community in Springfield (who are there legally, and at the town’s invitation) were stealing and eating domestic pets. Both the mayor and governor have denied this is happening.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised about the proximity and access to Trump granted to far right-wing instigator Laura Loomer, which has unsettled a number of Trump allies given her history of racist and conspiratorial comments.
Trump stressed on Truth Social that she is not part of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Harris urged Trump to return to the debate stage despite his announcement on Thursday that he would not face her again.
On Friday, the vice president sat for her first solo interview since becoming the party’s nominee, pitching herself as “a new generation of leadership”.
The Republicans defending Trump’s debunked claims about pet-eating Haitian immigrants
The theory – which city officials have said there is no evidence for – was even discussed on the debate stage as Trump faced off against Kamala Harris. Debate moderator David Muir pointed out the claim was unfounded, but Trump doubled down.

Trump is only running to stay out of jail, says 9/11 responder and advocate
A September 11, 2001 responder and victims’ rights advocate said he believes Donald Trump is running for president “to stay out of jail” and doesn’t actually care about the American people after the former president invited far-right figure Laura Loomer to the 9/11 memorial.
John Feal, who was injured while working as a demolition supervisor at Ground Zero after 9/11, told CNN on Thursday that he thinks the former president only cares about himself and has surrounded himself with other “self-absorbed” people like Loomer.
“Donald Trump’s not running for president, he’s running to stay out of jail,” Feal said.“I don’t care what anybody says.”

‘They’re just not true’: Springfield officials furious as Trump’s migrant pet-eating lie causes bomb threats and school closures
“Unfortunately right now, we have to focus on making sure this rhetoric is dispelled, that these rumors are just, they’re just not true. Springfield is a beautiful place, and your pets are safe in Springfield,” Springfield mayor Rob Rue told CNN.
Springfield’s police and city manager, as well as the Ohio governor, have all affirmed that claims of Haitians eating pets are without evidence.

Whoopi Goldberg tells JD Vance to ‘shut up’ for calling Taylor Swift ‘disconnected’
The day afterwards, Vance appeared on Fox News to lament Swift and her politics, adding that the 34-year-old pop star is “disconnected” from American society.
The Ohio senator said: “We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans, whether they like her music or are fans of hers or not, are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who I think is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans.”

Republican-linked group targets Muslim voters with antisemitic ad about Doug Emhoff
A political action committee with apparent ties to Republican groups has aired advertisements in Michigan zip codes with notable Mulsim populations that emphasize Vice President Kamala Harris’s ties to Israel and her husband, Doug Emhoff’s, Jewish faith – seemingly in an attempt to draw the specific voters away.
A series of six advertisements from the Future Coalition PAC have aired in cities like Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Hamtramck where the largest concentration of Arab Americans live.
At first, the ads appear celebratory of Emhoff potentially being the “first Jewish presidential spouse ever”.

Can Kamala Harris win Pennsylvania? Just ask the mayor of Scranton
When Paige Cognetti first ran to become mayor of Scranton, she was told she couldn’t win because she did not have an Irish last name. She also had to overcome the fact that no woman had held the position in the city’s history.
Her victory in a special election in 2019, and again two years later, was seen by many as a sign of shifting tides.
“There were a lot of factors against me,” she says over coffee at Abe’s Deli, in the center of the town. “But I think it was pretty clear that the city needed a change candidate,” she adds.
Kamala Harris visits the area on Friday to try to win over the same kind of voters that helped Cognetti win in this key city in the swing state of Pennsylvania. Donald Trump was also there last month. It is no exaggeration to say that her path to the White House runs through these streets.

Scathing Secret Service probe details haphazard securing of Butler rally
A scathing report from the Secret Service details failures by agents in the hours leading up to the shooting of Donald Trump -including breakdowns in communication and haphazard securing of the site.
The findings are part of a Secret Service probe into the July 13 shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The shooting wounded Trump in the ear. It also left one spectator dead and two more hurt.
Gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks was able to climb onto the roof of a building only a few hundred yards away and fire at Trump with an AR-style rifle. Crooks was shot dead by snipers, but not before wounding the Republican nominee for president.

Trump claims Harris wants to bring back the draft
This is not true. There has been no draft since 1973. Enlisting in the service is voluntary. Men 18-25 are already required by law to register for Selective Service.
In June, the House of Representatives passed a measure within the National Defense Authorization Act that would automatically enroll men 18-26 with the Selective Service System.
Trump is an expert on the draft and how to avoid it.
