EXCLUSIVE Love Island’s Gemma Owen is thought to be dating equestrian Red Morgan and a source has spoken to the Mirror about her relationship following news of a romance
Former Love Island star Gemma Owen is said to have spent «a lot of time» with her rumoured new partner after they reconnected months ago. Details of their relationship have been shared following reports of a romance this week.
It was reported yesterday that Gemma, 21 – who appeared on the ITV2 show three years ago – is currently dating fellow equestrian Red Morgan. They are thought to have spent time together whilst away in Dubai just days ago as part of a group that also included the reality TV star’s parents, retired footballer Michael Owen, 45, and his wife Louise Owen.
Red is the son of entrepreneur Steve Morgan, 72. The latter is known as the founder of construction business Redrow, which lists Michael among its celebrity clients on its website. Steve – whose net worth is estimated to be £915 million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2024 – shares his son Red and a daughter with his ex-wife Fiona Boustead.
Following the recent reports that Gemma’s in a relationship with Red, a source told the Mirror earlier today that they have known each other «for a long time». The pair, who both have links to North Wales and Cheshire, are said to have spent much time together since reconnecting last year.
The source told us: «They have been friends since school age and are from the same area so have known each other for a long time.» The source continued: «Their mutual love of horses means they are often seen at the same equestrian events and have mutual friends on the equestrian circuit.»
It was further shared that Gemma and Red crossed paths at an auction towards the end of last year, prompting them to spend more time together. The source commented: «They bumped into each other at an auction last November and have been spending a lot of time with each other since.»
The comments come after the Sun reported earlier this week that it’s believed that Gemma’s «new boyfriend» is Red. A source told the outlet that Gemma – who is a dressage rider herself – mixed in the same equestrian circles as him.
Gemma appeared to be spending time with her partner last week whilst on a trip abroad to the United Arab Emirates with her family. Photos from the holiday to Dubai have been shared on Instagram in recent days by Gemma and others.
One photo showed the former islander and her parents sat among a group on a yacht. Gemma and an individual, believed to be Red, looked cosy between Michael and Louise in the photo, which had been shared by another guest.
More recently, Gemma seems to have shared a photo of herself and Red from the same boat trip on her Instagram Story. The pair were seen sitting together and looking at a phone in the recent post, which didn’t have a caption.
The news comes almost three years after Gemma appeared on the eighth series of Love Island, which aired in 2022. She reached the final with Luca Bish, and they were runners-up to Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti.
Following the final that summer, Gemma and Luca went on to become official after leaving the villa. The former couple however announced that they had parted ways months later and have both since moved on from the romance.
