Two people were killed and seven others were injured on Thursday night after being struck by a pickup truck near Water Street and Jackson Street in the Lower East Side, the authorities said.
One person was taken into custody, and several of the injured were transported to hospitals, four of them in critical condition, the police said at a news conference on Thursday night.
