Car manufacturer Stellantis has announced an urgent recall for nearly 1.5 million Ram pickup trucks worldwide.
The recall is due to a software problem that could disable the electronic stability control system.
Certain Ram truck models are affected, specifically those from 2019 and 2021 through 2024, with the majority of vehicles located in North America.
The recall includes nearly 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks in the United States, as well as about 159,000 vehicles in Canada, 13,000 in Mexico and 61,000 outside North America.
According to a statement released by Stellantis on Saturday, the trucks may have anti-lock brake software that could inadvertently shut down the stability control system.

This system is responsible for managing the throttle and brakes to prevent skidding.
The company has assured owners that even if the stability control system fails, the brakes will continue to function normally.
Stellantis has stated that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries resulting from this issue.
US safety standards require electronic stability control to be operational during nearly all phases of driving.
To address the problem, dealers will update the software at no cost to owners.
Stellantis plans to notify affected customers by mail, with letters expected to be sent out starting October 3.

In June, Stellantis recalled more than 200,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to a software malfunction that may cause a vehicle’s electronic stability control systems to fail.
The company claimed the problem was caused by a defective anti-lock braking system, which is sometimes deactivates the stability control system.
The impacted models were the 2022 Dodge Durango, and the 2022 Ram 2500 and 3500.
The Ram 2500 is the model with by far the most vehicles impacted. Nearly 158,000 of the 2500 pickups will be recalled, while just over 500 Ram 3500s are affected.
Around 53,000 Durangos will be recalled.
