Aid delivery to the Gaza Strip has been imperilled since Hamas’ 7 October attack triggered Israel’s ongoing war against the militant group.

Israeli restrictions, fighting and the breakdown of law and order have hindered aid delivery, raising fears of famine. Hunger leaves people at greater risk of disease and death.

According to the United Nations, at least 1.9 million people — about 90% of the population — in the Gaza Strip are internally displaced.

Many people have also been forced into overcrowded displacement camps, where families face unsanitary conditions and a shortage of essential items.

At least 45,553 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war began, the enclave’s health ministry reported, the majority of whom were civilians. More than 108,379 people have been injured. The United Nations considers the figures to be reliable.
