Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy released a video showing returning prisoners disembarking from a bus in the Chernihiv region.
Some were wrapped in Ukrainian flags and seen speaking on the phone with family members.
The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the exchange but did not specify the number of individuals involved.
Zelenskyy also did not disclose figures but said those released included wounded and seriously injured soldiers, as well as people under 25.
