Up until now, the identity of Wendy Williams‘ court-appointed guardian — who is reportedly the only person allowed personal contact with Williams — has been unknown. That guardian’s identity was recently revealed as a lawyer named Sabrina Morrissey, who has now filed a lawsuit against the parent company of Lifetime, the network that’s releasing a new documentary about Williams’ life and recent health struggles.
Where Is Wendy Williams? is a four-part documentary which premieres on Lifetime this Saturday (Feb. 24). So far, it has raised plenty of questions about the talk show host’s health and the legal guardian who was named as her financial conservator ever since she was moved to a care facility to help her manage a diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which was revealed yesterday (Feb. 23).
Since her transition to the facility, Williams’ family claims that her court-appointed guardian is the only person who can contact her.
“The people who love her cannot see her,” Wendy’s sister, Wanda, has said. “I think the big is: How the hell did we get here?”
Who Is Sabrina Morrissey?
That previously unnamed court-appointed guardian has now been identified as Sabrina Morrissey, a New York lawyer who primarily handles estate administration, guardianships and litigation.
With the new documentary set to premiere on Lifetime in one day, documents show that Morrissey has filed a lawsuit against A&E Television Networks, Lifetime’s parent company. The details of the lawsuit are under seal, so the public is not privy to them, but TMZ reports that Morrissey is seeking a temporary restraining order, which suggests an effort to prevent the release of the documentary.
The judge on the case has ordered the documents to remain under seal and has set a hearing date for next week to determine the next steps in the case.
Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, has been critical of her guardian, stating during a visit to The View yesterday, “In terms of things that I have seen over the last two years, yes, there were definitely people around her that you do question. ‘Why are you here? What’s your motive? How are you doing this job? Are you getting paid?’ Because I’m sure you’re not doing it for free. There were those questions.”
Finnie added, “Then obviously cognitively, with seeing my aunt in the state that she’s in, you do wonder, OK, if she did sign off and hire you or whatever the case may be, was she aware of everything? So that leads us to where we are now.”
