A Kentucky woman who shot her boyfriend in the face as he prepared to go on a date with a pageant queen is on the hunt for a new man from behind bars.
Shayna Hubers, 33, was sentenced to life in prison in 2018 after a jury convicted her of murdering her on-again off-again boyfriend, Ryan Poston, in October 2012.
Poston, 29, was on his way to meet Miss Ohio 2012 Audrey Bolte for a date, and had tried to end his relationship with Hubers, then 21.
‘I have grown much since the 21-year-old girl I was in October 2012 at the time of my arrest,’ Hubers said in a profile page she’s created on WriteAPrisoner.
‘I’m looking for someone who won’t judge me by my past, but by the woman I’ve become.’
Inmates use WriteAPrisoner to connect with penpals outside of jail.

Hubers indicated that she’s holding out hope she’ll soon be a free woman, hitting out at ‘false conviction theories’ and arguing her case was ‘used to obtain television ratings.’

During a police interview immediately after her arrest, she confided in detectives that she feared if ‘anyone will ever want to marry me if they know that I killed a boyfriend in self-defense – not funny.’ Two separate juries determined Hubers murdered Poston in cold blood, not self defense.

‘I am a tall and thin brunette standing at 5’9” inches tall and 115 pounds with lots of long, wavy, golden brown hair; big steel blue doe eyes, and a wide, bright smile on a heart-shaped face,’ she said.
‘No one really knows or can explain what I’ve been through besides me.’

‘I’ve been through a heartbreaking journey, but I haven’t given up on meeting someone true, loyal, loving, respectful, non-judgmental, and devoted,’ she said.
Hubers was sentenced to life in prison but will be eligible for parole in September 2032. She has been in custody since she was 21.
While her profile specifies that Hubers is straight and looking to connect with a man, she married a transgender woman, Unique Taylor, in a 30-second jailhouse ceremony back in 2018.
Taylor, formerly known as Richard McBee, was a persistant felony offender. The couple split seven months later, citing irreconcilable differences.
Hubers is willing to find a penpal outside of the United States, and is ‘seeking legal help.’ She’s specifically noted that she is not after a ‘prayer partner.’
During her two criminal trials – the first verdict was thrown out after a juror revealed he was a convicted felon – Hubers maintained that she was acting in self defense when she shot Poston in the face.

She also started dancing around the interrogation room, twirling and snapping her fingers, while she sang ‘I killed him, I killed him’ and ‘I did it. Yes I did it. I can’t believe I did that’
The state argued that she shot her attorney boyfriend in cold blood, because he wanted to end their relationship.
Hubers called 911 after the shooting and told the dispatcher: ‘Ma’am, I killed my boyfriend.’
When police arrived, they determined he’d been shot six times in the forehead, back and torso.
She claimed Poston had pushed her and thrown her against furniture in the moments before she fired the first shot in his face.
But three of Hubers’ cellmates testified that she boasted about giving Poston the ‘nose job he always wanted’ and claimed she laughed about his death.
Their accounts were similar to what Hubers herself told police after she was questioned following the shooting.
‘He’s very vain,’ she was recorded telling police. ‘One of our last conversations we had that was good was that he wants to get a nose job.’
‘And I shot him right here. I gave him his nose job he wanted. I broke it.’
She also began to question officers about what life was like behind bars, asking if she’d be allowed to take her phone or have a shower.
