A woman who thought she ‘would marry her ex’ has revealed that he will now receive a letter from her on every birthday and anniversary for the next ten years after she set up sweet ‘messages from the past’ system – then forgot her password not long after he dumped her.

Emina Sonnad, a musician who lives in Berlin, took to TikTok to admit that she had gone through the trouble of composing a decade’s worth of love notes to be sent from her ‘past’ self to her former boyfriend on those ‘future’ special dates – only for him to dump her long before all those occasions came to pass.

But she was left without any way to prevent the scheduled letters from being sent out.

As she explained in a now-viral TikTok via text overlay: ‘My Roman Empire is the fact I thought I would marry my ex so I found a website to write him letters from the past with predictions of where our future selves would be.

‘He dumped me and I forgot the password so he will be receiving them on every birthday and anniversary for the next 10 years,’ the text concluded.

The mention of ‘My Roman Empire‘ means that it’s something she will be thinking about at least once per week after a bizarre social media trend that has emerged in recent months.

Elsewhere, Emina shared that it had now been four years since the former couple had broken up.

In a later TikTok, she shared one of the letters, which she wrote to mark his 30th birthday.

‘My darling hamster, my majestic swan. I’m writing to you from 2020 to inform you just in case you forgot, or more likely, just in case I forgot that today is your 30th birthday,’ she began as she read it out loud.

‘I can imagine that perhaps you feel just the tiniest amount of anxiety about the future. And more specifically, the fact that the future seems to be shrinking as you stare into it.

‘When you were 23, you were already afraid of getting old, you are afraid of losing your hair, losing your grandparents, losing your memories, and of course, losing your AirPods.

‘I see you cling to happy moments reluctant to ever let a good night end.

‘You made me a hand-painted box with the word moments written on it hoping that if we take enough photos and keep them in that box, we can somehow prevent the moments themselves from ending.’

The note concluded: ‘I hope you know that I choose you – whether you are 23, 30 or 100 years old.

‘I’m sitting next to you right now and that we’re drinking Earl Grey tea and laughing at how pretentious I was when I was 25.

‘I hope we’ve been able to survive the hurdles of long distance when we’re on our world tours. You as a famous DJ and me as a now geriatric pop star.

‘I hope we’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished over the years and that the moments box is so full it started overflowing. Most of all, I hope we’re laughing.’

Emina paused before letting out a long sigh and quipped: ‘I’m gonna figure out how to get this un-sent.’

Hundreds took to the comments of the original post to sympathize with Emina’s awkward-yet-humorous plight – with many sharing similar embarrassing stories about past actions through which they inadvertently continue to stay linked to their ex.

‘I feel you! I was unable to cancel a beef jerky subscription I gifted my ex. Mortifying. I wrote a poem about it and it got published,’ one admitted.

‘I did this too a decade ago when I was 15 so the messages are mortifying also I get sent a copy too for even more embarrassment and can’t stop it,’ a second echoed.

‘I sent our names to Mars… now I’m consoled by the fact that Mars is also a symbol of War,’ added a third.

A fourth noted: ‘This is is gonna cause so many arguments with his future relationships lol’ – to which Emina responded, ‘I trust him to start plenty of arguments on his own but it’s still nice to know I’m helping.’

‘Men don’t deserve us. He never would have done something so thoughtful,’ suggested a fifth.

‘I hope you find someone who will love you as deeply as you love others.’

Emina confirmed that she in fact had been with someone for two years at this point.

‘Lover girls for the win!’ one optimist chimed in.

‘I’m a hopeless romantic what can I say,’ Emina confessed.
