Before the setting came into play, the Paris Olympics were already guaranteed to be a spectacle.

The best athletes from around the world twist, contort, jump and dive in ways most of us couldn’t even imagine. Mix in the backdrop of one of the world’s most iconic cities in Paris and its surroundings, and it adds up to a photographer’s dream.

Here are some of the best images from Day 11 of the Olympic Games on Tuesday from the pool, to the track, to the grit of one-on-one competition.

Water sports have produced some of the most spectacular images from the Paris Games. That was the case again on Tuesday in artistic swimming and sailing competitions.

Some of Tuesday’s most exciting action took place on the track. The men’s long jump produced a new champion in Greece’s Miltiadis Tentoglou along with some sensational shots. In the women’s 200-meters, USA’s Gabrielle Thomas ran a dominant gold medal final.
