
An ICE agent gunned down an illegal immigrant after the man attempted to run agents over during a traffic stop in Texas on Thursday, the agency said.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, was shot and killed by officers in Houston after he had been caught up in an operation the agency had been conducting in the city, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a press release.
Salgado had tried to flee after agents told him to pull his vehicle over, the agency said.
He rammed an ICE vehicle, ignoring commands from officers to pull over, and tried to use his vehicle to run over an ICE agent, the immigration officials alleged.
An ICE agent then shot at the motorist, fatally wounding him. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died, according to authorities.
Salgado, who officials said is a Mexican national and illegal immigrant, had been in the area looking to hire workers, his son Ronaldo Salgado told Telemundo Houston.
The Houston shooting is the most recent in a series of deadly incidents involving the controversial immigration agency and vehicle-bound passengers.
ICE agents shot and killed a man in Chicago after he rammed into officers in September 2025, dragging one underneath his car.
Anti-ICE activist Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by immigration agents in Minneapolis after the agency claimed she had attempted to run over one of their own.
That claim was hotly contested by activists and led to protests throughout the city.
