Horror as firefighter rushed to hospital while battling Little Fire near Pleasanton

A firefighter was rushed to the hospital after a fire engine tipped over while crews battled a fast-moving wildfire that scorched more than 1,000 acres in the Bay Area on Tuesday.

The man was injured in the rollover while crews battled the Little Fire in the Pleasanton hills of Alameda County, according to CAL FIRE.

He was taken to a hospital in good spirits and had been released by Wednesday morning.

The blaze erupted around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and tore through more than 1,007 acres, forcing nearby residents to evacuate as flames came within feet of some homes, ABC7 reported.

Crews worked through the night to stop the wildfire from advancing, and it was 40% contained by Wednesday morning.

Near the Ruby Hill neighborhood, the last major residential area under mandatory evacuation, the order was downgraded to an advisory overnight.

Despite flames threatening the neighborhood, no structures had burned as of the latest update.

CAL FIRE said defensible space around homes made a significant difference in protecting properties from the encroaching flames.

On the ground, dozens worked along steep ridges while firefighters hiked through difficult terrain to attack the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Witnesses reported construction activity near Little Valley Road, where investigators were focusing their attention, though officials have not determined what sparked the wildfire.
