Then St. John’s and Rick Pitino got involved.
It changed the Syracuse transfer’s recruitment.
“I was definitely getting near a decision for sure,” the new Johnnie told The Post in a phone interview the day after he picked St. John’s over Kentucky. “I wasn’t sure if it was what I wanted, but I had an idea. When St. John’s came in the picture, they told me everything I wanted to hear and everything I wanted in a school and everything I wanted in a coach. It kind of just felt right. … I kind of always wanted to play for a legendary coach. A coach of that caliber really.”
