A 17-year-old girl is among the two students charged in a wild brawl on a Westchester County college campus that left two people injured, authorities said Thursday.
The teen, who was not identified because of her age, and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Darryl Crawford, were charged with felony assault for the shocking caught-on-video scuffle at Westchester Community College Wednesday afternoon that left one victim with a collapsed lung, authorities said.
Crawford allegedly got into a violent fight outside the David Swoope Student Center when he “did produce a knife in his left hand with the intent to case serious physical injury,” according to a criminal complaint.
It is unclear if Crawford stabbed one of the victims, but he allegedly dropped the knife and his gal pal picked up the weapon to “stab the victim with the broken off blade” of the pocket knife, the complaint said.
Both were arraigned on felony assault charges, with the teen now being held at the Woodfield Cottage juvenile detention facility and Crawford held at the county jail on $25,000 cash bail or a bond of up to $100,000 after being arraigned in Greenburgh Town Court on Thursday.
He is due back in court on Oct. 2.
Crawford, of Yonkers, and his girlfriend, who lives in Mount Vernon, are both enrolled students.
Westchester County police said they responded to a 911 call at the Valhalla campus around 12:40 p.m., where they found the two injured students and took the suspects into custody.
Disturbing video footage captured the melee, showing students throwing punches and kicks on the campus lawn, including one victim in a bloodied white t-shirt who falls to the grown in pain.
“I was just on my way back to class and then we see a fight break out,” one student eyewitness said. “The two boys dropped to the floor, and there was just blood everywhere.
“I rushed to the boy that’s bleeding the most,” she said. “He was just bleeding out and somebody passed me a sweater and I’m just trying to stop the blood. And the two that did it are just like running around. It’s insane.”
Police have not revealed what sparked the bloody brawl. Law enforcement sources said one of the victims is a former WCC student, but it is unclear if that played a role in the fight.
In a statement, Westchester Community College officials said county cops were leading the investigation “with the full cooperation and support” of the school.
“Our top priority is ensuring a safe and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty and staff,” the statement said. “There was an incident on campus that has been resolved.”
