The design world is already calling next year’s color trends.
So far, popular paint companies like Valspar, Benjamin Moore and more have revealed their picks for 2025 Color of the Year, with more color announcements from other brands expected over the next few months.
Last year, several home decor and paint companies selected earthy tones for 2024, with shades like Persimmon, Ironside and Cracked Pepper.
This year, Behr set the tone when they released their 2025 Color of the Year: a deep, moody shade of red. Since then, other brands such as Valspar, HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore have announced their own hue selection.
Here’s a look at popular 2025 Color of the Year selections so far. This list will also be updated as more choices are announced.
Behr: Rumors
Behr chose “Rumors,” a deep ruby red, as its color choice for 2025.
The brand shared in a Aug. 21 press release that the color adds warmth and sophistication to the inside or outside of a home, and is capable of making a dynamic statement.
«Rumors has a warm energy and elegant ambience that confidently allows you to express yourself and brings a touch of luxe into any living space,» the release read.
According to a survey conducted by Behr, 73% of Americans said in a survey that red can add “depth and character” to a space, and 61% agree that a bold red wall feels “warm and captivating.”
The rich tone, sold exclusively at The Home Depot, is part of Behr’s color trends palette for next year, which the company says ranges from warm to cooler shades.
Valspar: Encore
Valspar is embracing a bold look for 2025, declaring a rich blue hue called “Encore” as its color of the year.
The paint company said in a September press release that the color is meant to create a “joyful” look in any indoor or outdoor space.
“Encore is a color for any space or application. Its atmospheric deep blue tones emulate both the elusive luxury of Old World design and the futuristic blending of our physical and digital world, making it a color that feels familiar and unexpected at the same time,” Valspar’s director of color marketing Sue Kim said in the release.
“This makes it an ideal backdrop to ground a room, leaving space for spirited pops of complementary colors. Encore’s versatility means it also can shine on its own through playful applications inside and out, such as on wood, decks or concrete pavers.”
Valspar noted that “Encore” is a versatile tone that can be used on a variety of surfaces, including metal, concrete, on cabinets and on furniture.
The paint and coatings company also said the blue color can be easily tinted to create new shades for any environment. The company added that the color pairs well with its colors “Lavender Escape,” “Sprig of Sage,” “Gosling” and “Graceful Gray.”
HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams: Quietude
HGTV Home from Sherwin-Williams is embracing lighter, classic tones in this year’s color collection, with a cool, sage green called «Quietude» being revealed as the brand’s color of the year.
The shade is intended to create a «serene environment» and timeless look, per an August press release.
«When applied throughout indoor and outdoor living spaces, Quietude reminds us to slow down and look for happiness in the everyday small moments that connect us all,» the release said.
The brand’s 2025 Color Collection of the Year is titled «Naturally Refined» and showcases similar neutral tones, leaning into shades of yellow, beige, blue, orange and brown.
“The ‘Naturally Refined’ Color Collection embraces the desire for simplicity and slower living,” the brand’s color marketing director Ashley Banbury said in the release. “Thoughtfully curated with longevity in mind, each shade emanates elements of timeless design and quiet luxury to help support a living space that feels meaningful.”
Benjamin Moore: Cinnamon Slate
Benjamin Moore described its color of the year, «Cinnamon Slate,» as “a delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown,» per an October press release from the company.
“As the use of more saturated color in design has increased in recent years, we are seeing a growing interest in more nuanced colors, whose undertones add intricacy and dimension,” the company’s director of color marketing and design Andrea Magno said in the release.
“Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduring style and modern sensibility. Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home, making it a new favorite for years to come,» she continued.
The paint company noted that the shade is meant to bring “soothing familiarity” and balance to any space, adding that «Cinnamon Slate» is both adaptable and distinct when it comes to design.
