A hero teacher tackled mass shooter Griffin J. John II — who was armed to the teeth when he stormed an Oregon elementary school special education classroom, according to authorities.
The quick-thinking teacher hurled her cellphone at John, 16, and tackled him to the ground to wrestle away his firearm inside Silver Rail Elementary School on Thursday afternoon, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said at a press conference on Friday.
John fired at least 15 shots in the special education classroom with a Maverick 88, a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun loaded with three types of ammunition — 12-gauge birdshot, buckshot, and slugs, Krantz told reporters.
A hero girl dad, identified as Kaylub Giamanco, entered the classroom with his 40-caliber pistol and saw the unidentified teacher wrestling with the crazed young gunman.
Giamanco then fired his pistol, fatally striking John multiple times.
Krantz praised the teacher for her “heroic action.”
“She was not injured in that incident, but she almost certainly help prevent more bloodshed,” Krantz said.
Three students, 5-year-old Rhoam Summer, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old, and teacher Megan Lambert, 25, were killed in Thursday’s shooting.
