A trio of headlamp-wearing “mole people” was filmed popping up out of a manhole near Manhattan’s bustling Penn Station in the early morning, according to a new clip of the head-scratching trend.
A video posted on TikTok captured three men clad in headlamps and overalls hurriedly pulling themselves out of the steamy depths of a manhole at 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue — just blocks away from the busy commuter hub and Madison Square Garden.
The footage of the sewer spelunkers was taken just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, the person who posted the clip told NBC News.
The clip comes two months after a pair of unusual caught-on-camera sightings of men emerging from manholes in Williamsburg and Gravesend raised concerns in the Big Apple and sparked an NYPD probe.
An NYPD emergency services and New York City Department of Environmental Protection investigation conducted underground found the strange incidents appear to be people scavenging for anything of value that inadvertently made its way into the city’s sewer system, sources previously told The Post.
Treasure hunters have long been drawn to the allure of the Big Apple’s sprawling 7,500-mile sewer system in search of a wayward wallet or piece of jewelry that could have fallen through a grate.
An inspection of the sewers in the area of Tuesday’s incident revealed no damage to the infrastructure, a spokesperson for the city’s Environmental Protection Department also told NBC.
The NYPD is investigating the latest video, and no arrests have been made, a department spokesperson told the outlet.
Authorities cautioned that sneaking into manholes was “both illegal and extremely dangerous.”
“Sewers can contain numerous hazards, including noxious and potentially deadly gases, unstable surfaces, flooding risks, and confined spaces,” the statement said, according to the news station. “For these reasons, members of the public should never enter a pipe, drain, catch basin, manhole, or outfall.”
The NYPD and DEP did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
