Shopping for a new mattress can feel a lot like buying a new car—it’s expensive, it’s time consuming, and you’ve gotta get hands-on with a bunch of different models to find the best one.
Or do you?
These days, mattress shopping is predominantly done online, which can sound scary if you’ve never done it before. A mattress is a big purchase, but you can get one shipped directly to your door and even set up in your bedroom for you. Nearly all online mattress companies offer 100-night trials, so if you buy one and end up not liking it, you can easily return it.
Shopping events—like Amazon Prime Day—offer great opportunities to shop for mattresses. Though it’s risky to buy a mattress from a brand you don’t recognize on Amazon or Walmart, many of our favorite mattress retailers run major sales during Prime Day.
I’ve been writing about mattresses for the past five years, including testing some of the top brands in a sleep lab, so I’m going to break down the best mattresses I’m seeing on sale this week and which models I think you should consider.
The best mattresses on sale during Prime Day
I’ve overseen testing on dozens of mattress brands, but my mattress is a Nectar. I’ve had this mattress for four years and loved every minute of it. The brand offers a 100-night trial, so if you have it for a few months and long for your former bed, you can return it. During the brand’s Amazon Prime Day sale, you can snag your own Nectar for $550, or $350 off the normal price.
The Leesa Sapira Hybrid is one of the most highly awarded mattresses you can shop online. It’s renowned for its superior comfort and cooling abilities. If you’re hunting for a high-quality mattress that will last the next decade or so, the Sapira Hybrid is the way to go. During Prime Day, you can score your own for 20% (or $300) off. You can also get two free pillows with the purchase of any mattress from the brand.
During Prime Day, Tuft & Needle is offering promotions on three of its top-selling mattresses: the Kin, the Nod, and the Nod Hybrid. The Kin is down to just $560 for a Queen, a massive markdown from its nearly $700 standard price. The Nod is also 20% off, down to a staggering $424 for a Queen. Its hybrid version is on sale for $560, or 20% off.
The sales for these three mattresses are pretty stellar, especially ahead of Black Friday. One thing to remember is that since these mattresses ship from Amazon, they’ll come in a box and require you to set them up on their own. If you want to buy a bed that comes with a crew who will set it up for you, we recommend shopping directly from the brand and upgrading to a White Glove delivery service.
Serta is running a major Fall Sale that overlaps with Amazon Prime Day, offering up to $700 off some of its most popular mattresses and adjustable bases. There are four mattress types on sale during the event—the iComfort, iComfortPro, Sleeper X, and Sleeper. Reviewers favor the Sleeper X, giving it a 4.9-star rating. Its hybrid construction combines the cooling abilities of innersprings with the medium-firm feel of a foam mattress. You can get White Glove delivery with Serta mattresses, so you don’t have to worry about setting the mattress up by yourself.
As one of the oldest mattress brands out there, you can expect a solid bed from Sealy, which is offering up to $200 off its Posturepedic Plus mattresses during Prime Day. You can customize just about every aspect of this mattress, from its feel (soft, medium, or firm) to its features (cooling, support). Like Saatva, the brand will deliver and set up your mattress for free, so you don’t have to stress about what will happen with your old mattress.
Helix is widely regarded as one of the best mattress brands on the web thanks to its expansive range of mattresses tailored to just about every sleeper and body type. Its mattresses boast accolades from CNET, Sleep Advisor, the Strategist, and Wirecutter, so whether you need pressure point relief or body contouring, Helix has the perfect mattress for you. During its Prime Day sale, you can score 25% off sitewide with the code PRIMETIME25, a rare savings for the brand.
When you shop mattresses at Stearns & Foster this week, you can get up to $600 off the brand’s luxury mattresses, which come with free at-home setup and a 90-day sleep trial. You can unlock discounts ranging from $200 to $600 across all four of the brand’s mattresses, though its top-rated bed is the Lux Estate, which has a 4.5-star rating after nearly 500 reviews. It comes in a medium feel (great for back and side sleepers) and is $400 off during Prime Day.
Reviewers can’t get enough of the Cocoon by Sealy mattress, which has more than 8,500 reviews from satisfied sleepers. You can snag a high-quality queen mattress for just $899 during the sale (or 35% off its normal price). This week, you can also get a free sleep bundle, which comes with two pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector.
Mattress Firm is running a major sitewide sale during Amazon Prime day. Shop from some of the best brands out there, including Sealy, Serta, Beautyrest, Tempur-Pedic, and more. As part of the sale, you can score a range of free accessories with each purchase, ranging from pillows to bases to sheets and more.
