Haylie Duff was engaged to Matt Rosenberg for 12 years before their breakup — and spoke candidly over the years about why they never walked down the aisle.

The actress was asked about the couple’s plans to tie the knot in a 2021 Access Hollywood interview, seven years after her then-partner got down on one knee.

“We didn’t plan to not get married, we just have been busy having kids and filming shows and him working,” Duff, 41, said at the time. “Life kind of got away from us, to be perfectly honest.”

The “7th Heaven” alum went on to reference daughter Ryan, now 10, and daughter Lulu, now 7, explaining that she and Rosenberg always said they would wed “if it ever was, like, important to the girls.”

“Now anytime I get dressed up in something nice, Ryan is like, ‘Mommy, that’s so beautiful, are you gonna wear that to your wedding?’”

Duff joked about a possible “Texas wedding in the future” and clarified she and her partner were “having the talks about things like that.”

The “Real Girl’s Kitchen” star continued, “We also kind of thought as soon as we were done having kids, we would do it, but here we are.”

Duff said the same while chatting with People in February 2018, speculating, “Maybe after the craziness of a new baby dies down we’ll be ready to talk about it again.

“We talk about it and think, ‘Maybe now we’re ready to do it’, and then life happens and toddler happens,” she noted. “We feel married already and it hasn’t become something that both of us are gung-ho about.”

Duff’s rep confirmed on Monday that Rosenberg, 37, and his fiancée called it quits “around the first of the year.”

The couple started dating in 2012, with Rosenberg getting down on one knee in 2014.

“Matt just took me by total surprise and proposed … on April Fool’s Day of all days!” Duff blogged post-proposal. “The moment was genuine and sweet (like him!) and I couldn’t wait to say yes!”

Hilary Duff gushed over the news at the time, tweeting, “So happy to not have to keep this news in!! My beautiful sister @HaylieDuff and her amazing boyfriend @Matt_STS are engaged!!!!”

The “Lizzie McGuire” alum, 38, and Haylie have since become estranged, with the latter not attending Hilary’s 2019 wedding to husband Matthew Koma.

The former Disney Channel star’s February album, “Luck… or Something,” features a song called “We Don’t Talk” about Hilary’s wishes to reconcile.

“That’s definitely the most lonely part of my life,” she told Rolling Stone of the emotional track. “I struggled with, ‘Am I going to share this?’”

Haylie has not commented on the release — but did make headlines January for stepping out with Ashley Tisdale after the “High School Musical” star called out Hilary and more members of her allegedly “toxic” celeb mom group.
