A trans man and his wife are expecting their first child after undergoing IVF using her womb and his eggs from before he transitioned.
Taylor Winters, 42, was born a female but always felt “like a boy” growing up.
He moved to the UK nine years ago and began looking into transitioning – starting testosterone aged 34.
He found it “exciting” to grow a beard, hearing his voice drop, and felt “whole” after having top surgery.
Before Taylor started his transition, he decided to freeze his eggs and began IVF costing over $9,000 with wife Chloe, 33, in February 2026.
They used a sperm donor, whom they were matched with in 2022, and used Taylor’s frozen eggs in their first transfer in March 2026.
The couple fell pregnant on their second round of IVF in May 2026 and are set to welcome their baby girl in the new year.
In the future, they plan to use Chloe’s eggs so they can each have a biological child.
Chloe, a social media manager from Watford, Hertfordshire, says: “We had to start on hormones for a good few weeks before we were actually allowed to start the IVF process.
“I had my first round of IVF in March 2026, and that went well.
“After the IVF had happened, we had to pick the best graded fertilised embryos to be implanted.
“You have to wait 11 days at our clinic to see if it had worked or not.
“My first round didn’t work, and I had to wait for my period to come back and start hormones again during that time.
“After the first round, we both felt crushed but felt really determined to not let a big stretch of time go by and try again straight away.
“11 days later, about 5 a.m., we couldn’t sleep the night before, knowing it was test day.
“We woke up at 5 a.m. and said, ‘let’s just do it’.
“It was amazing and such an amazing feeling, especially after having such devastating news the first time around.”
Taylor, who grew up in Transylvania, Romania, told his parents he was a boy from the age of five and would cut his hair, refuse to wear skirts, and tried to “pee like a boy” – and says they were supportive.
He moved to Germany with his then partner in March 2014, before moving to the UK in March 2015 when the relationship broke down.
There, he began properly looking into transitioning and met Chloe in 2016, who helped him through the process.
After going through physiological assessments and testing, he was able to start testosterone in November 2017.
Before starting, Taylor decided to freeze his eggs as he had always wanted the chance to be a parent – but had never seen himself being pregnant.
Taylor had top surgery in October 2019 and a hysterectomy in November 2023.
He said: “It was such a liberating feeling.
“It was amazing not having to hide my chest – to go the beach and not have to wear a bra.”
Now happy in himself, Taylor and Chloe are set to welcome their first child in January 2027.
Taylor said: “From my perspective, I always wanted to have biological kids, but I didn’t want to be pregnant.
“We’re using both our eggs to start a family so we each have a biological connection.”
Chloe said: “I’ve always wanted a family of my own, ever since I was little. Having our own biological kids just felt right for us as it does for a lot of couples – we’re no different.
“Having IVF as an option for us is such a blessing. We both have a lot of love to give and have the best family and support around us, and our children would always be loved and accepted for who they are.
“You can be in a healthy and happy relationship if you’re transgender.”
Chloe is now 24 weeks pregnant and says things have been going “really well.”
“It’s nice seeing the bump grow every week, and we’ve been recording it basically every two weeks,” she says.
“It’s been great fun to see the changes and getting to see the baby’s heartbeat and seeing all the scans.
“It’s been a great journey so far.
“We’re super excited to be new parents.
“It’s been quite a long journey from the very beginning, a long process.”
The couple would love to then have another child – using Chloe’s eggs and the same sperm donor.
Taylor says: “For me, I’ve been there supporting and I’ve been to every single appointment and supporting her as much as I can.
“She’s going through it, it’s the least I can do.
“The feeling of holding our baby girl for the first time is just going to be amazing.”
