Married couple starring as Jay & Daisy in Broadway’s ‘The Great Gatsby’

Newlywed actors Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada, who star as Jay and Daisy in Broadway’s “The Great Gatsby,” have a marriage right out of a romance novel.

But when the couple met in 2017 at a reading for the musical “Hadestown,” Noblezada thought their pairing would not even be believable to audiences.

“He’s so handsome. And I just wasn’t confident the way that I am now. So going back and seeing him, I remember being like, ‘You guys want us to play lovers, that’s hilarious,’” she told The Post.

And Carney, 43, didn’t see a future where they’d even be friends.

“Funnily enough, I didn’t think Eva liked me. And she didn’t think that I liked her,” he recalled.

“I was nervous,” added Noblezada, 30. “I thought that he was super cool and smelled good and was very nice.”

The lovebirds, who have been in a total of five theatrical productions together, did have to kiss during “Hadestown”– but Noblezada was months away from marrying actor Leo Roberts and Carney was dating actress Victoria Justice.

“We had partners at the time. And I think that any chemistry read, you should go in with respect for yourself and your partner and also the other person,” said Noblezada, a San Diego native.

“It wasn’t like that at all in the beginning. We genuinely became best friends,” added Carney, who was born and raised in the West Village.

“It was chemistry in that sense where it’s like we just really get along and this is so much fun spending time together.”

The couple didn’t see each other again until March 2018, when they were workshopping “Hadestown” at the London Theater.

By 2019, Noblezada was divorced and Carney had split from Justice, and they were starring together in “Hadestown,” which had then moved to Broadway — so finally had the “Green Light” to move forward.

“Once we were single, it was like best friendship turning into something romantic. What’s better than that?” Carney said.

“We were like, ‘The only reason not to do this is in case it would mess up the show.’”

They tied the knot in October 2025 — and “Gatsby” marks their fifth production together, since they starred alongside one another in three different productions of “Hadestown” and one of “Cabaret.”

Noblezada originated the role of Daisy when the show opened at the Broadway Theatre in 2024. She departed from the role in January and then returned in March, with Carney joining the cast just a few weeks later.

When the duo, who live in walking distance from the theater, meet fans at its stage door, they are touched to hear that some have followed their journey.

“What I love hearing is like, ‘Oh my gosh, we saw you guys in ‘Hadestown’ and then we saw you in ‘Cabaret.’ It’s really special and pinch-me moments every night,” Noblezada gushed.

They star in eight shows a week, with a typical show day consisting of Noblezada getting to the theater first for hair and makeup prep.

Her dressing room is on a different floor from Carney’s, which works well for the couple, since they prefer not see each other until they’re on stage.

“It’s nice to see each other for the first time when the show starts, once we’re on stage and our characters meet, which I think adds tension,” Noblezada said.

“We’re here to entertain people, and people pay a lot of money to see it. So you want to make sure you’re focused when you’re working so that you’re creating the atmosphere of fantasy for everyone,” Carney added.

The duo traveled to Dublin for a few days after their nuptials, but are planning for a longer honeymoon. “We’re blocking off three weeks,” Noblezada said. Sandra Okuboyejo

As for a pair they’d like to portray on Broadway one day, they have their sights set on one from “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

“Jesus and Mary Magdalene,” Carney said.

“Oh yeah, that would be fun,” added Noblezada.
