Will Ed Harris Be in Season 2 of ‘Dutton Ranch’?

There’s never a dull moment in the wild world of Yellowstone. The debut season of Paramount+’s popular Yellowstone spinoff Dutton Ranch recently concluded, but the behind-the-scenes fireworks are once again on par with Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip’s (Cole Hauser) weekly drama.

Back in June, it was revealed that Benjamin Cavell would be taking over showrunner duties from series creator Chad Feehan, with sources telling Deadline that Feehan “faced challenges handling the bold-faced cast.” Series star Cole Hauser told The Hollywood Reporter that “things change” and “people move on” when asked about the situation.

“We finished [season one] with Chad beautifully,” Kelly Reilly added. “We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds, and we all work together, and I’m so proud of that.”

But Feehan’s exit from the high-profile series isn’t the only source of behind-the-scenes turmoil. During a recent interview with Variety’s Marc Malkin, Oscar nominee Ed Harris revealed that he felt “misled” about his role on Dutton Ranch, telling the outlet that “midway through the first season,” he was saying “get me the fuck out of here” because he “didn’t feel like [he] was being used.”

Will Ed Harris Be In Season 2 of Dutton Ranch?

As of now… yes. Harris revealed to Variety that he’s signed on for two seasons of Dutton Ranch and that he was told that his character “would have a little bit more to do” in the second season. While Harris ultimately said that he thought Season 1 was “pretty good” and felt “fine” about his work on the series, he wasn’t shy about voicing his frustrations.

“Prior to signing on, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what my character was going to do — and that I was one of the four main characters,” Harris said. “And that wasn’t really the case… I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential,’ and they kind of went, ‘Oh.’”

Continued Harris: “The thing that really pissed me off, to tell ya the truth. One of the things they told me before I signed on, ‘Hey, you get to sing… in a bar.’ So there’s this scene in there … I’m talking to [Beth Dutton] at the bar, and [Rip Wheeler] comes in and says, ‘OK, Everett, come on, it’s your turn. I walk up to the mic, and they cut it. They cut the song out. I’m going, ‘Fuck you, people.’”

Harris said that they cut the scene because “it was too up for the dark ending of that episode,” before adding, “To me, that was reason enough to say I’m voiding my contract.”

Nothing’s off the table when it comes to Yellowstone (hello… remember the Kevin Costner saga?!), but as of now, Ed Harris’ Everett McKinney will be back for Season 2.
